Handicaps

Our weekly handicap league is a great way for disc golfers of all skill levels and ages to meet new people and improve their disc golf game!  Come join the Chain Hawks during our weekly handicap league every Sunday and see what it’s all about!

Handicaps are run year-round and alternate between Northside and Jonesville courses. Meet at the small pavilion at Northside or pavilion near hole #1 at Jonesville and sign in by 11:30am.  Play either short or long pads!  The club Facebook page cover photo is updated weekly with handicap locations and there is a calendar of locations located at Northside’s kiosk.

How it works:  Play against your own score!

      1. Play two establishing rounds – free to establish!
      2. Play against your running course average!
      3. Those who score the lowest under their handicap each week win cash prizes!

Your first two rounds (free to play) are used to establish your own personal course average and handicap score. After establishing your handicap, you play against this score each week.  Payouts are given to top places (determined by number of people playing) and are determined by who beats their own score the most.

Note:  You must play two establishing rounds separately for Northside Park and Jonesville Park as well as for short and long pad positions.

Long Pad Total (w/extras) – $10.00

Handicap Score Calculations

Two (free) establishing rounds must be played before someone qualifies for payouts. After 2 recorded scores, a player pays the handicap entry fee and qualifies for payouts. Handicap scores are calculated differently depending on how many scores are recorded.  Check out this document to learn more about the details of handicap score calculations.  Remember that scores are based off of total par at each course (Northside with 20 holes is par 60 and Jonesville with 18 holes is par 54).

Bag Tag Challenge

The Chain Hawks have 60 wooden, custom made challenge tags (courtesy of Woody DG).  A challenge tag can be purchased if you are a current club member and the cost is $5 (Note: Cost is insurance for tag in case it is lost or broken.  You can return your tag at any time in same condition and receive your money back).

How it works:  The purpose of the challenge tags is to create friendly competition while players strive to get the lowest challenge tag numbers!  Challenge your friends or other players at anytime for a full round of disc golf.  Whoever wins the round receives the lowest challenge tag number.

Handicaps:  Every week at handicaps, any player with a tag turns it in before the round. Tags are redistributed after the round based off of raw score (i.e. your personal handicap is not used in determining distribution of tag numbers).  If people have the same raw score, the lowest tag is given to the person who turned in the lowest tag number before the round.

Top 10 Tags:  Those holding the “Top 10” challenge tag numbers (1-10) are strongly encouraged to play handicaps or schedule a round so other players can have a chance to challenge them for the tag.

At the beginning of each year, ALL tags are turned in and then randomly redistributed.

Team League

The 2016 Chain Hawk Team League currently consists of four teams, each made up of five players who range in skill level (e.g. from novice/rec to pro). Over the course of 10 weeks, each team is paired up with an opponent team and they battle for the most team wins within a week (1 point per player win and 1 point given to the team with lowest combined score ).  Prior to the season, each player is ranked based on information they provide (i.e. how long they’ve been playing, average scores on both courses, how often they make putts inside or outside the circle, etc.) and are matched up each week with a player of similar skill level from the opposing team.  The cost to play is $20 which is awarded to the winning team at the end of the season celebration.

The idea of creating the team league was initiated by Dylan Nuetzi who is the league commissioner.  Thank you, Dylan, for your hard work in organizing this amazing league! And thanks to the league sponsor, Taylor Wright and his company Wind In Face Therapy (WIFT) Outfitters.
